THE POWER OF MUSIC
Hi Dance Fam,
This week, I'd like to talk about the power of music. We live in a time when there's a wide variety of music available to us. Music has evolved rapidly, especially with the advancements in technology. However, not too long ago, the evolution of music changed people's lives. One notable example is the impact of Elvis Presley's music. He introduced a new style of music that not only became popular in the USA but also across the world. The video above is an excellent example of the effect music can have on the human spirit. Elvis not only brought new music, but also a style of dancing that seemed to liberate people's souls. It's important to remember that, at the time, what he was doing was considered controversial and inappropriate. Elvis frightened people because he encouraged them to be free – free from judgment, free to be lost in the music, and free to let their bodies move with the music however they wanted to. It was a magical time in music history! However, it also scared many who thought it would negatively impact the world. This is the power of music! Art has the ability to liberate the soul in various ways. With the emergence of Rock & Roll, a new generation realized that music could be so much more than they had previously understood. Elvis and his music were so captivating that people would literally pass out from excitement!
Nevertheless, in today's world, we often forget that music still possesses that power. We've become somewhat desensitized because it’s so easily accessible. That's why, in my classes, I remind my students to connect with the music and remember that we are not simply dancing to another song. The world has existed for a long time, and the evolution of music throughout the ages is something my mind can't fully comprehend. In conclusion, I encourage you to recognize the power of music and the songs you listen to. Remember the history and the artists who brought forth the songs that have impacted your life. One of my favorite songs is "Stardust" by Nat King Cole. I remember listening to it as a child on CD in my room by myself. I could feel the magic and the stars as I lay on my bed. It was the first time I felt overwhelmed by the singing, the notes, and the story behind it. It truly made me feel like I was traveling through the stars with the notes. Music can move our souls and our bodies if we let it. I challenge you to surrender to the music, listen to the message it has for you, and what your heart speaks to you through it. It only works if you truly allow yourself to be liberated by it. Keep on dancing and keep changing the world for the better!
